Cracked Tooth Repair

Your teeth can withstand an incredible amount of pressure, but even a healthy tooth can crack when exposed to excessive force. Even a small crack can jeopardize a tooth, needing immediate repair to protect the tooth. At Lufkin Family Dental, we are here for you when you have a cracked or chipped tooth that needs repair, quickly fixing the damage with general dentistry and adding protection to stop further dental issues.

Most cracked teeth can be repaired when caught early. Some cracks are evident from the start – you may feel or hear the crack when it occurs. Once the outside of a tooth is cracked, it can allow bacteria and decay to enter the inner, softer pulp of the tooth. You may feel a dull or throbbing pain and the tooth can become sensitive to temperature. As soon as you realize you have a damaged tooth, call our office to schedule a tooth repair to prevent further issues.

Repairs to Damaged Teeth

The method of repair on a damaged or cracked tooth depends on where the crack is located and the extent of the damage. Some small cracks or chips can be filled or bonded quickly without the need for any other treatments. Larger cracks or more severe damage to the tooth may require a dental crown, root canal therapy or both. Dr. Allen will always do everything possible to save a damaged tooth before recommending extraction.

Small cracks can occur that are not visible or painful. These can be the most dangerous as the tooth is left unprotected from infection and decay. This is another reason to come in for routine checkups – catching and repairing these tiny cracks before they allow larger oral health issues to transpire will save you money and pain in the future.

If you have a painful, damaged tooth or just noticed a small crack, contact our office today for an appointment. We will get you in as soon as possible for a tooth repair.
