Happy Mother’s Day From Lufkin Family Dental
A Mother’s Guide To Their Babies’ Teeth
Dr. Derek Williams and our entire staff would like to wish all mothers a very happy Mother’s Day. We hope you get spoiled and pampered on this day, because you sacrifice so much for your family the other 364 days of the year. Thank you for all that you do. We also want to thank you for making your child’s dental health a priority for your family.
If you’re a new mom, you may be concerned about your baby’s teeth development. Here are a few basics for you about your little one’s teeth.
- Your baby was born with 20 teeth tucked under their gums. They usually erupt through the gums as early as six months after birth. It’s so cute when those two upper and two lower teeth appear right in the front of their mouth. It’s a day worth documenting.
- By the time your baby is three years old, they typically have their full set of 20 teeth in their mouth. Your child’s jaw continues to grow as they grow to make space for the adult teeth, which come in around the age of, five or six.
- When teeth emerge through the gums it may make them sore and tender in the gums. If you notice they are fussy or in pain you can gently rub the gums with a clean finger, a small cool spoon, or a wet gauze pad.
- Offer a clean teething ring to chew on.
If your baby is still fussy you can discuss your concerns with a dentist like Dr. Williams who can help guide you on relieving your child’s dental pain. Be sure to book your child’s first dental visit after the first tooth appears, and no later than the first birthday.
